Councillors Take Action Following Safety Concerns at Hitchin Road
Local councillors have responded to residents’ concerns regarding pedestrian safety at Hitchin Road and the Birchen Grove Roundabout by arranging an on-site visit with council officers.
The visit, attended by residents despite adverse weather conditions, allowed concerns to be raised about the safety of children and elderly pedestrians. Following discussions, Kyle White, Network and Safety Manager at Luton Borough Council, confirmed that a request for a pedestrian crossing has been added to the council’s five-year priority list. He also advised that the feasibility of introducing a School Crossing Patrol will be explored.
Councillors will continue working with residents and council officers to ensure these concerns remain under active consideration.
Footpath Repair Update – Abbotswood Road
Residents may be aware of defects to the footpath outside 92 Abbotswood Road. Following initial investigations, the issue has been referred to Housing Repairs. Highways have been asked to provide a quotation to carry out the necessary works on the Council’s behalf, after which an order will be raised. If Highways are unable to undertake the repairs, an alternative contractor will be appointed. Councillor Zahoor Ahmed is actively following this matter and will continue to monitor progress to ensure the repairs are completed as soon as possible.
Whitecraft Road – Drain and Footpath Maintenance
At the end of Whitecraft Road, specifically outside properties numbered 57, 55, 53, 42, 40 and 38, berry and debris clearance is being carried out to help prevent flooding and improve safety. Your local councillors are regularly visiting the area to ensure that drains, gully covers and footpaths are being cleaned and properly maintained. This monitoring will continue, particularly during the autumn and winter months, to reduce the risk of blocked drains and surface water issues.
