Labour-Led Luton Council Votes Down Proposal to Protect Luton’s Parks
In a recent council meeting, the Labour-led Luton Council voted against a proposal from the Liberal Democrats aimed at halting further developments on local parks. This decision raises concerns, especially considering the Labour Council's past record of developing on parks and green spaces. The issue of preserving public green spaces has become increasingly important for residents across Stopsley residents. If necessary, your councillors will fight to preserve Stopsley’s green spaces from development.

Ashcroft Recreational Park Update
In a positive development, Liberal Democrat councillors in Stopsley secured a commitment from the council to actively consult local residents regarding the replacement of play equipment at Ashcroft Recreational Park. This initiative aims to involve the community in decision-making, ensuring that their voices and preferences are considered when planning new and modern play facilities. We share residents’ concerns about the delay in replacing the play equipment. We will press the council not to use the public consultation exercise as a delaying tactic.
Stopsley Residents Reject Controlled Parking Zones
In a recent parking consultation, Stopsley residents emphatically rejected the implementation of residents-paid-for controlled parking zones. Instead, they have called for a parking plan tailored specifically to the needs of Stopsley Village. We will support such a plan. Residents also emphasised the need for better enforcement of
existing restrictions and proposed new restrictions in parking hotspots to address ongoing issues. Your councillors will continue to put pressure on the council to enforce existing parking restrictions and to make sure the new parking plan addresses the issue of parking hotspots.
Concerns Raised by the Liberal Democrats
The Liberal Democrats have criticised the council's decision to sell Wandon Park, contending that the process lacked proper legal oversight. They raised questions about the legitimacy of the sale, particularly concerning the discounted valuation assigned to their own company, Foxhall Homes. We have been questioning whether this valuation accurately reflects the park's worth or if it was influenced by other factors. The Liberal Democrats have called for transparency, emphasising the need to address unanswered questions regarding the sales circumstances and decision-making processes.
Liberal Democrats’ Residents Survey Reveals Ongoing Concerns
The Liberal Democrats’ annual residents’ survey in Stopsley has highlighted persistent local issues. Respondents highlighted the poor condition of roads and pavements, ongoing anti-social behaviour and parking pressures around schools and residential areas. Many voiced concerns over the declining state of Luton’s town centre, citing a lack of investment and safety issues.
